Many of problems people associate with forums aren't inherent problems of them.
Modern forums let you upload things directly so files disappearing from some external hoster stopped being an issue for them. And at least in those forums I know, the culture has mellowed out a lot so I haven't seen "use Google, idiot" or "mods, close this" type posts in quite a while.
