Discord is instant, messages will basically cease to exist after a while because they get buried, which incentivizes shorter messages and more shallow discussions. Microblogging is near-instant with mostly the same consequences, but at least it doesn't feel entirely pointless to write longer texts if the platform (fedi) allows it.
