@arch@david I think the usability being not the best here is definitely true. Nobody enjoys having to carefully pick an instance, then having trouble to connect with people because it turns out that the admins de-federated for reasons you personally wouldn't mind, but there's nothing you can do. Or when not all replies show up on a post, so you have to paste it into the search bar to federate it over to your instance manually — if that even works. Or when following is broken and you have no idea why. There's so much jank going on here.
But I still trust this more than Bluesky, because at least you can be sure that your instance will be fine even if others go down. The same can't be said when Bluesky loses it's name lookup thing or whatever other centralized parts there are.
