I see that Mastodon also still only shows alt text on hover. That isn't very user-friendly. Just think of the user onboarding!

@emmy Oh, interesting, it works with an older TypeScript version. 5.5.4 is fine with it, 5.6.2 isn't.

@kura I talked about it in-depth here: volpeon.ink/notebook/modern-social-media/

My post now was prompted by a complaint about typing quirks. It's really just another variation of the exact same situation we see over and over again on here about using CWs, using alt text etc.

But will this situation ever be fixed? No. Nobody ever challenges the base assumptions of microblogging. At least not in a way that has lead to results thus far.

I need a counter for all these times I see a post on here talking about problems on this network that can all be traced back to Twitter-like design being so far removed from reality that it only causes problems.

hash.update(data: crypto.BinaryLike)
"Updates the hash content. [...] If data is Buffer, TypedArray or DataView, then inputEncoding is ignored."
Use a Buffer as parameter
"Argument of type 'Buffer' is not assignable to parameter of type 'BinaryLike'"
Good type definitions you got there, Node

Are they splitting the post by spaces to do the emoji substitution? Why not just regex?

I see Mastodon frontends still require a zero-width-space between consecutive emojis. woozy_baa
