The terminal emulator I wrote was surprisingly good. It was built into a Tron-like animated user interface I developed with OpenFrameworks, and I wanted the project to be at least somewhat useful. Since it was an OpenGL application, the terminal was also GPU-accelerated and beat quite a a few others in my benchmarks. It had some weird glitches, though, that I was never able to fix.
I should've mentioned this in the original post, but "Mom, can we have a character limit to enforce a design constraint rather than a technical constraint?" kinda doesn't roll off the tongue as easily.
If the character limit is a technical constraint, then this is fine. But if it's a constraint on information, as is the case with microblogging? Oh boy, you better buckle up
